The NEWS media has scared people with contagious report.

On October 4, 2011, CBS and other NEWS outlets took this story and frightened those who have loved ones with Alzheimer’s.  This is one of the most sensationalistic and potentially damaging science reports I have read.

The first words by CBS NEWS were: Is Alzheimer's contagious? What new study says  “A provocative new study may have you pondering that question next time you offer a hug and a kiss to someone affected by the devastating neurological disease. It showed that the brains of mice injected with tissue from a human with Alzheimer's exhibited changes characteristic of the disease - suggesting that some cases of Alzheimer's may spread from person to person in much the same way that "mad cow" disease spreads.”

How could the University of Texas study make an assertion that Alzheimer’s may be contagious?  Are they dead wrong?  We understand prions can cause protein plaque buildup that leads to Alzheimer’s.

Science currently knows of only seven pathogens that are CONTAGIOUS: viruses, bacteria, fungi, protozoa, parasites, mycoplasma, and prions.  And, they are all subject to mission failure from a good immune system. These seven are the cause of disease epidemics and without them no infectious epidemic can occur.

Contagious means that any of these deadly infections must enter, survive and multiply within the host.  The ease with which a disease can enter, survive, and spread determines its contagious level.

The EASE of infectiousness is not present in this study. Using a needle, the student(s) injected Alzheimer’s brain cells from a human directly into the brain of a mouse. The most likely scientific method for showing contagious would be to eat the tissue, not inject it into the brain.

Dr. Claudio Soto, the study author and professor of neurology at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, said in a written statement, "Our findings open the possibility that some of the sporadic Alzheimer's cases may arise from an infectious process, which occurs with other neurological diseases such as mad cow and its human form, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.".

Even the worst of the Mad Cow disease cases is believed to be transmitted by contaminated meat-and-bone meal fed to cattle.  Not touched.  Not breathed, but by actually eating the prion infected meat or bone meal.

A different study done by Robert Vassar of Northwestern University found that when the brain doesn't get enough of the simple sugar called glucose - as might occur when cardiovascular disease restricts blood flow in arteries to the brain - a process is launched that ultimately produces the sticky clumps of protein that appear to be a cause of Alzheimer's.

Working with human and mice brains, Vassar discovered that a key brain protein is altered when the brain's supply of energy drops. The altered protein, called eIF2alpha, increases the production of an enzyme that, in turn, flips a switch to produce the sticky protein clumps.

"This finding is significant because it suggests that improving blood flow to the brain might be an effective therapeutic approach to prevent or treat Alzheimer's," Vassar said.

Another team of scientists have found evidence that the amyloid-beta protein (A-beta) is a, if not THE, front line innate immune system of the brain.  The best defense against an infection or the misfolding of proteins is a strong offense in the form of a well performing immune system. That is where Smart Sugars do their work.

To Dr. Soto’s credit, he said that there is no need for dramatic precautions. "We know that there is no risk [to] family members of people with prion diseases," he told CBS News. "There are no cases of disease in relatives. The prions don't go through the air."

Quantum science was a hard pill for Albert Einstein to swallow because of its mind bending paradoxical  explanation  of  phenomena.  Today, a little bit of sugar will ... that’s right, ...make the medicine go down.

Quantum biology is an emerging scientific discipline.  You never heard of Quantum Glycobiology or Quantum Glycomics (QG).  This lesson is your introduction and you will see how QG will help us solve the mystery of why some sugars are so unbelievably beneficial for improving health and may in the future even be able to correct otherwise impossible devastating illnesses.

Scientists are grasping at quantum’s bizarre properties to solve mysteries of the evident influence of unseen forces.  We will learn how to harness quantum influences; but, first we need to understand how the same wave-particle properties can produce drastically different outcomes.

In quantum glycobiology, we will be required to understand how the folding of different proteins and sugars are entangled with unknown forces including ions, magnetism, photons, radiation, and thought and manipulated further with variant thermal conditions, light of various spectrum, rate of radioactive decay, direction of rotation, speed of spin, angles, gravity, and electrical discharge transfer of energy.  Perhaps anything is possible with quantum mechanics.

I could hear you whisper, “How can thought be involved in quantum glycobiology?”  Think.  In clinical studies, the placebo effect works on about a third of the patients who are taking a sugar pill, a “bad sugar” pill yet. Animals don’t exhibit the placebo effect.

It was the variant factors of entanglement that baffled Einstein and caused him to call quantum physics, “spooky action at a distance.”  The real relativity factor of future science is the understanding of entanglement.  The reason the entanglement factor is so important is the fact that it often works at the tipping point level of efficacy.  The tipping point factor can be explained with a perfectly balanced scale holding in each bucket half the water of all the oceans.  The tipping point for the scale to tilt either direction is to add one drop of water to your choice of either side.  This is how relative a drop of H2O is when it puts its weight behind a purpose.  In quantum physics, the possibilities are endless, not just one tilting to the left or right like the drop of water on the scale.  The endless possibilities of mysterious influences can alter the state and performance of a molecule or a system.  The effect, the behavior, the consequences, are as pervasive as they are profound.

Quantum influences are relative to all systems regardless of size.  Quantum physicists have been concerned primarily with microscopic anomalies.  There may be no boundaries of quantum prediction because of the incoherence of unknown factors.  It is this entanglement that binds all the particles together to produce unknown quantities for strange conclusions.  Here collective properties become impossible to untangle.

Like the tilting scale, when propensity is altered, that newly directed influence may gather momentum and influence compounding change.  I postulate that the peer pressure of particle momentum influences atoms, ions, photons, magnetism, and thought.  We have in a previous lesson discussed how a thought triggers a constellation of synapse in your brain to take flight like a flock of birds.  Scientists have learned that elementary particles also react like waves of activity and develop a propensity to operate in unison.  This is the law of attraction manifest.

We will, in another lesson, discuss how it is the very entanglement that produces the outcome.  It is mangled entanglement that produces chaos.  It is the proper folding of proteins that give order to the human body and the misfolding of these same proteins that cause neurodegenerative diseases.  Quantum glycobiology resides in the entanglement of proteins and sugars forming glycolipids and glycoproteins that are the Operating System (OS) of the human body.

Vlatko Vedral of Oxford admits, “Implications of macro-scopic objects such as us being in quantum limbo is mind blowing enough that we physicists are still in an entangled state of confusion and wonderment.”

It appears no one understands quantum physics but that has not kept brilliant minds from enjoying the possibilities nor kept them from babbling utter nonsense about things that are not relative.  Quantum physics extends new opposing challenges to the theory of relativity.  And, QG opens the door for understanding the benefits of sugars like never before.

Smart Sugars Lesson #35

Quantum science deals with unseen factors that can generate tipping points, producing what we call “anomalies”.  An anomaly is what people name something when they don’t know what just happened.  Something caused the tipping point which was not calculated into the equation and yet remains unexplained.

In the title of this lesson, “new possibilities for sugars” may be a misnomer in that the possibilities are not really new but our understanding what is happening and how to help make certain things happen ARE indeed new.  Traditional physics deal with how things normally function.  Quantum physics take into consideration those many unseen factors.

In biology, we witness life, the natural science of all living organisms.  We study structure, function, and growth and all that make plants, animals and humans what they are.  Living organisms consume and transform energy from various sources.  Light influence on sugars is one factor we will discuss in just a moment. 

In glycobiology (glycomics), we study various sugar structures (design) and witness the function of these sugars and the effects they have on living organisms.

Initially science taught us that sugars were only for energy.  In recent years, we have learned that energy is but one of the many benefits or harmful functions of various sugars.  Some sugars are the building blocks of the Operating System (OS) of the body and the backbone structure of the DNA double helix.

What the body does with glucose alone becomes the tipping point for diabetes and general health.  What an infant child does with Royal Sugars in its body determines the quality of mental health and motor skills for that human life for the rest of its life.

For us, quantum glycobiology IS made up of the multitude of unseen factors that influence or dictate commands for what the human cell can do with the sugars.  The sooner we understand these forces, the sooner we can explain the health anomalies we have witnessed over the past two decades.  Any one of the multitude of influences may develop a tipping point.

In Smart Sugars Lesson #27, I mentioned many more hidden influences than just radiation, pressure, density, heat, microwave, and light.  Each of these could serve as a tipping point.  We learned that scientists have manipulated genes in diabetic mice with bursts of blue light. The blue light turns on the GLP-1 gene, which tells the pancreas to make more insulin.  When the protein melanopsin (a light sensitive pigment in ganglion cells) is exposed to blue light, it triggers the production of calcium which activates the NFAT gene, which can turn on other genes.

There are an incalculable number of particles and waves within incalculable dimensions and frequencies.  Quantum glycomics will provide explanations and open wide a new frontier of learning about sugars that will change the way we live.

Scientists question yesterday’s discoveries.  And, rightfully so because often they misunderstood what they thought they observed.  Now, the very foundation of modern physics is questioned with the recent discovery that neutrino particles have been clocked going faster than the speed of light.  It now appears that Einstein was wrong.

With quantum glycomics, we can discover that a ridiculed sugar pill may be enormously more beneficial to human health than today’s antiquated toxic drugs.

Smart Sugars Lesson # 34

Studies have shown for years that Royal Sugars are beneficial when fed to new born babies. These sugars improve the child’s  mental and mobility skills for the rest of their lives.  These specific sugars are provided by nature in human mother’s breast milk.

But, what about the mother who makes and provides these sugars to their nursing infants?

The JAMA/Archives journals reveal interesting information that we are contemplating in today’s Smart Sugar Lesson.

Some of the work reported here was supported by a National Institutes of Health National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award and a Wadsworth Foundation Young Investigator Award.

The mother also benefits from producing these sugars. Evidence is in showing that women with Multiple Sclerosis have a reduced risk of relapse, EVEN WHEN SHE NURSES THE INFANT FOR ONLY TWO MONTHS.  Nursing longer may be significantly better for both the mother and child.

Cardiovascular disease is the world's largest killer, claiming 18 million lives a year.  Over eighty one million (81,000,000) American adults have one or more types of cardiovascular disease (CVD). That’s an awesome count of one in three adults.  Thirty eight million (38,000,000) adults over 60 years of age have CVD.

According to NIH, diabetes affects nearly twenty six million (25,800,000) people of all ages of the US population.  A look at US residents over 65 years of age and older shows nearly eleven million (10,900,000) diabetes in 2010.  About 215,000 people younger than 20 years had diabetes — type 1 or type 2 — in the United States in 2010.

Diabetes and heart problems have risen over the last decade with CVD remaining the leading cause of death in the United States.  Stress coming from every directions compounds cardiovascular disease.  Our objective is to educate our readers on ways to support and improve cardiovascular and diabetic health.

University research across the planet gives us evidence that Royal Sugars support cell health. Scientists have discovered that polyphenols found in ceylon cinnamon seem to protect omega-3 fatty acids from breaking down so they can better promote cardio health.  Furthermore, ceylon cinnamon and trehalose each appear to help suppress inflammation.

This lesson is going to deal with false assumptions in science, especially medical science, especially in sugars. These misconceptions may affect your life, block future discoveries, and inhibit finding cures.   New discoveries will replace today’s medicines while tomorrow’s science will disprove many of today’s theories.

Science is open-ended with endless possibilities unless the pipeline is plugged with politics, money, religion, or ignorance.  It may be a combination of all of them.  I call these plugs to progress, “biases, bribes, and brains”.  Sometimes anti-motivating factors seal (conceal) truth because of economic fallout.  In medicine, a cure means that a whole river of money may dry up.

Today, wrong names and terms from past discoveries, perpetuate these errors.  Understanding the original meaning of a word or phrase advances our education.  False assumptions have steered scientists off course.

Words used in today’s disciplines reveal and explain some of these false assumptions from previous observations.  Since this is a Glycomics lesson, let’s start with the word CARBOHYDRATE.  We live in a carbon world but the false assumption was that scientists thought sugars were HYDRATED CARBON.  Reality is that carbohydrates have little to do with water.  No big damage here.  It’s just a name, right?

An untruth repeated often enough is accepted as truth.  There is one thing wrong with this protocol.  It is not true.  A little white lie is still a snow job and will corrupt the whole system when it melts under the heat of light.

Until recent history, sugars were thought to only be for energy.  Now, we know specific sugars, which I call Royal Sugars, are the building blocks for the Operating System (OS) of the cell including the brain, even used for constructing the DNA.

The pH Factor:
The pH scale measures how acidic or alkaline is a substance.  Keep the system slightly alkaline and cancer cannot survive.  We have discussed the importance of pH in my books and articles.  The term “pH” stands for potential of hydrogen and was originally coined by Søren Peder Lauritz.  He thought pH was a measurement of the concentration of hydrogen ions in a liquid.  Later, Sørensen discovered it was actually a function of the "activity" of hydrogen ions.

In the area of vitamins, false assumptions prevail to this day and are accepted as fact.  Some vitamins are not vitamins at all.  But, because these substances were “discovered” as vitamins, they are thought to be vitamins and everyone calls them “vitamins”.  The D complexes are actually hormones.  Balance your hormones and you will have a healthier body.  Some lids remain on truth because it would be difficult to retrain the populous.

Glycomics will forever change healthcare.  The medical system has become specialized and expensive because of treating symptoms instead of causes.  The important has become the urgent.  When we take care of the important, we may avoid the urgent.  Royal sugars will help achieve that objective while lowering the cost of healthcare.  The misconception of Glycomics by many is that the sugars must be synthesized into drugs because the human body cannot use them when taken orally.  Many studies prove that oral consumption of Royal Sugars have profound benefits for improving the health of the human body.

The healthcare crisis and hyper inflated expensive treatments are a culmination of disaster in believing drugs can treat any and every thing.  The struggle is literally between drugs and nutrition, synthetic and natural.  Or, if I wanted to be melodramatic, I would say between God and man.  Drugs construct the tower of illusion that you can reach heaven.

The word is out on the street that Big Pharma is giving up on Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.  New antipsychotic drugs for neurological disorders are too much trouble, take too long to develop, and leave big pharma with too much liability.  Besides that, more money can be generated in a much shorter time period from other drugs used elsewhere.  New treatment for neurodegenerative diseases are too complex and costly for giant pharmaceutical companies to develop.

“...many big drug companies are pulling the plug on R&D for neuropsychiatric and other central nervous system (CNS) medicines.”, according to the directors of Tufts Center for the Study of Drug Development.  Kenneth I. Kaitin, Director and Christopher P. Milne, Associate Director so stated in an article, A Dearth of New Meds which was  published in the August 2011 edition of Scientific American.

Kaitin and Milne analyses show that central nervous drugs are far more difficult to develop than other drugs.  The difficulty comes, in part, from the long development time, long testing time, and rigorous regulatory approval.  Development cost for CNS drugs is in the highest category of any therapeutic area.

Even after some eighteen years from concept to patient, it is difficult to determine any cognitive benefits.  Studies reveal random fluctuation in mental alertness and the “sugar pill” may have greater results than the drug.  The placebo effect registers positive benefits in at about 32% of the subjects.  A British study concluded that the continuing use of antipsychotic drugs provides neither cognitive nor neuropsychiatric benefits when taken by Alzheimer’s patients.

Tracy Glauser, MD headed a six-month study at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center where he estimates that between 20% and 25% of children on neuropsychiatric drugs have the potential for an adverse drug reaction because of genetic variations or the combination of drugs they are taking.

Glycomics is a young science that will, according to MIT, change the way we live.  As education about the Royal Sugars is expanded in universities and schools internationally, the public is beginning to learn and accept the science.  Evidence is mounting that sugars out perform the most expensive drugs on the market.  It is the evidence for which the public is looking regardless if it is a drug or a food.  The issue is not if it is synthic or natural, the issue is RESULTS.

Evidence is mounting that sugars work better than drugs in cognitive matters and that harmful side effects are evident with drugs that are not present with sugars.  We will continue to report on ongoing glycomics research expanding internationally.

Glycomics Humor - glyCOMICS with a point / Humor at the Drug Store

I never did like humor at the expense of another... that is unless they really earned it.  This humor is not as funny as it simply reveals how out of control some pharmaceutical giants are.  This time it is Pfizer.  I do not know if this is representative of a bipolar problem or not.  If bipolar were involved, apparently there was no drug to reverse it.  Or, maybe the drug was the problem.

Fortune magazine reported that the Pfizer Board had allowed problems to fester and compound for years.  A Shakespearean series of events unveiled the saga of ambition without competency, intrigue without solutions, backstabbing instead of cooperation, and betrayal in absence of trust.

Sorry to say, but this is a picture of many companies and governments when internal problems grow out of mismanagement and poor leadership.  Pfizer CEO Jeff Kindler was plagued with sagging stock prices, a dried-up pipeline of drug development, and unexpected changes in strategy.  Added to these problems was a coup where the Board finally caused Kindler to resign. Apparently, disastrous choices in choosing support teams and his inability to settle on one solid business strategy, caused his executive team to rebel against him and the board to oust him. He had an inability to trust his colleagues, even though they had more experience in the pharma industry than he did, and instead employed an army of outside consultants, the reporters write.  Kindler chose three research chiefs in his less than five years, closed six R&D sites, halted research in 10 disease areas, even as he told his employees he wanted to launch four new internally developed drugs by 2010, Fortune reported.  He split the research operation in two, then reversed himself 30 months later. He called for Pfizer to become a smaller company, and started downsizing his sales department, then did an about-face and engineered Pfizer's buyout of Wyeth.

Glycomics is about altering gene expression with specific sugars to achieve beneficial functions.

Toxins alter gene expression and cause the misfolding of proteins that in turn cause many health challenges. Researchers have discovered that certain sugars may correct the altered gene expressions.

The University of California Irvine has connected the dots between Multiple Sclerosis and the Royal Sugar N-acetylglucosamine.

The study leader Dr. Michael Demetriou is a UCI neurologist and the associate director of the University of California Irvine Multiple Sclerosis Research Center said, “It is likely that we have uncovered only the tip of the iceberg.” He expressed hope that physicians will someday be able to reverse the genetic-induced defects with vitamin D3 or the sugar N-acetylglucosamine.

Demetriou says that one of the primary reasons that this area of MS research has remained unexplored is that protein glycosylation is still an under-studied field.

Here at The Endowment for Medical Research, we have been telling our readers for the last few years that MS and other neurodegenerative diseases are caused by the misfolding of the proteins.

Demetriou added, "Very few medical researchers understand protein glycosylation despite the fact that virtually all cell surface and secreted proteins are modified by the addition of sugars and that this imparts critical non-genome encoded information to the protein that alters cell function."

Dr. Demetriou and his team have analyzed samples from roughly 13,000 people and identified how environmental factors cause a spontaneous MS-like disease. The work conducted at UCI has produced data that Dr. Demetriou believes may point the way forward for personalized therapies for MS.

"Our data indicates that specific combinations of genetic and environmental risk factors lead to defects in protein glycosylation, thereby promoting multiple sclerosis," Demetriou says. "Thus, we can predict, based on genotyping, which patients are most likely to benefit from this type of therapy, which we also show inhibits MS-like disease in mice by altering protein glycosylation."

"It is likely that we have uncovered only the tip of the iceberg and that there are many yet to be discovered genetic factors that also alter protein glycosylation to promote MS and other autoimmune diseases," he says. "We are currently vigorously investigating this possibility and are planning to move forward with a clinical trial of N-acetylglucosamine alone and in combination with vitamin D3."

Trehalose / GMO Announcement

We have had a number of our readers and users ask if our trehalose is made from GMO grains.  Many people may not understand exactly what GMO means.  Trehalose is natural and can be made from any starch.  The trehalose we supply is made from tapioca from the root of the cassava plant or from corn. Trehalose is made when specific enzymes are used with the starch that reduces it to two glucose molecules bonded together with one glucose molecule turned upside down.  The trehalose molecule (two glucose molecules) is quite small, smaller than the DNA.

Here’s a brief explanation of GMO:
GMO is a Genetically Modified Organism which is an organism with genetic material that has been changed from the natural by using genetic engineering techniques.  The two primary reasons for tampering with nature and changing the DNA of a plant is (1) to produce a greater yield; and (2) to make the plant resistant to insects.  This is done by causing the plant to produce its own insecticide.  While producing pesticide within the grain, indeed, keeps the bugs away, it is also potentially harmful to humans and livestock.

Some sweeteners are made from GMO grains such as corn for HFCS (high fructose corn syrup) found in many of our processed foods.  I cover this issue with much documentation in my e-textbook, EXPAND YOUR MIND - IMPROVE YOUR BRAIN.

Changing DNA vs. altering gene expression

Making changes in the DNA is a totally different technology from altering gene expression:

Changing the DNA: GMO techniques, generally known as recombinant DNA technology, may use DNA molecules from different sources, which are combined into one molecule to create a new set of genes.  This DNA is then transferred into an organism, giving it modified or novel genes. Transgenic organisms, a subset of GMOs, are organisms which have inserted DNA that originated in a different species.  There are often very dangerous consequences to life because of tampering and altering nature.  A close friend told me about a herd of hogs that got into a field of GMO corn, ate the corn, were poisoned, and died.  There is an abundance of data showing the dangers of products made with GMO material.  Many regions of the world have outlawed GMO foods because of the residual effects to humans and livestock.

Altering Gene Expression:  Gene expression is altered negatively by toxins where the sequencing of the genes are turned off or on in a detrimental manner.  Royal Sugars alter gene expression in a positive manner by helping restore the sequencing back to their original design and function.  There is much documentation on our website, in our Glycomics DVD Training Series, and in other educational materials available in our Store Front.
